A Modern Parable: A little old lady fed the neighborhood children twice a week. She knew that there were children who never came to eat her nutritious meals and often wondered why the parents wouldn’t send their children, since there was no charge for the food. She went on week after week, preparing well-balanced meals to help the children stay in good health. One day she decided she wanted to bless “her children” in a special way and pulled out her cookbooks to find delicious desserts. All week she baked pies, cakes, cookies and sweet breads and she made candies of many varieties. When the day came for the meal, the children were delighted to find the table so full of goodies and joyfully skipped home afterward to share the news with their parents. Several of the parents from the neighborhood heard about this special meal and became livid. Their children didn’t get to eat from that dessert table and it just wasn’t fair! The leader called the sheriff and he came right over to hear their complaint. After they told him about the case of favoritism, he went to discuss things with the little old lady. He questioned her extensively about her meals and learned every detail involved. He then went back to the home where the irate parents waited and knocked on the door. He told them, “Clearly your children are anemic and could have used the meals that this lady has provided. But she has done nothing different over these past weeks, but provided meals freely to all who came. What we have here is a case of missed opportunity. It is not her fault that you never sent your children to receive!”

One of the great qualities about genuine love is that it grows and deepens over time.

Your smile can bring hope and change the countenance of someone today. Give it a try! “When the king smiles, there is life; his favor refreshes like gentle rain.” Proverbs 16:15
