A Christmas Fellowship is being planned for December 15. More details will come later. A Silent Auction is going to be a part of the fun. Donations are needed to make it a success. If you have something nice to donate, please give your donation to Brandy Mullins or Julie Mulford. Thank you.
A Thanksgiving Fellowship is in the works. Please sign-up on the sheet hanging on the bulletin board in the vestibule at the Walnut Street entrance. This will be a covered dish dinner. We have 2 turkeys coming already.
Matt Smith’s parents, Gene & Robin, have invited Word Worship Center to come to their church to see a play called, “The Weight of Sin”. They both have parts in the play, which was written by Gene who is also co-director. It will be October 21 at 6:30pm at their church. If you are interested in going with us, see Pastor Jim or Robin.
Brief Meeting: If you have a church key in your possession, please stay after church for a very brief meeting. Please gather at the front pews so we can do this quickly. Thank you.
Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser: The family of Brandon Williams is holding a spaghetti dinner to raise funds to pay for funeral/medical expenses. It will take place October 22 at the Moose Lodge from 1:00 to 6:00. Sandy Brown is selling tickets for them. Have a night out and help a family in need at the same time. Lord bless!
One day the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, “ How was the trip?” “It was great, Dad.” “Did you see how poor people live?” the father asked. “Oh yeah,” said the son. “So tell me, what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father. The son answered: “I saw that we have one dog and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.” The boy’s father was speechless. Then his son added, “Thanks, Dad, for showing us how poor we are.”
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
Why do I attend church service every time the door is open? Because I treasure my relationship with Jesus and I treasure the House of God. That is where my heart abides. Nothing on this earth is more important. The thoughts and senses of this mortal body must submit to the longings of my heart. My heart longs to be with Jesus in the Sanctuary of Almighty God. I will have it no other way. My soul does rejoice in the presence of the Almighty. And no power on this earth can take that from me. No matter how tired or lazy this body feels, no matter how “uninterested” this brain insists it is, no matter how much more important things “seem” to be, I’ll not be denied the presence of my Lord and Savior. And I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever and ever. What a great Treasure!! Amen.
WHY DO WE CLAP OUR HANDS? Psalm 47:1 O clap your hands all ye people; shout unto God with a voice of triumph.
WHY DO WE RAISE OUR HANDS? Psalm 63:4 Thus will I bless Thee: I will lift up my hands in Thy name. WHY DO WE SING PRAISES? Psalm 147:1 Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant, and praise is comely. WHY DO WE DANCE? Psalm 149:3 Let them praise the Lord in the dance; let them sing praises unto Him with the timbrel and harp. WHY DO WE HAVE MUSIC IN OUR WORSHIP? Psalm 150:4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with the stringed instruments. WHY DO WE WORSHIP? Psalm 28:2 Give unto the Lord the glory due His name; worship him in the beauty of holiness. John 4:23 For the hour cometh and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father seeketh such to worship Him.
