WE NEED YOUR HELP Bake Sale/Car Wash: Our Youth Group is having a car wash & bake sale at Auto Zone on June 9th from 7:30 – 3:30. The more hands there are to wash cars the better. Any baked goods would be appreciated as well. Contact Teresa or Ernie about scheduling a time to help or to donate baked goods for the sale.
Mark Your Calendar: Our Lake Park Fellowship will take place on Father’s Day this year. Bring a covered dish of some sort and come fellowship right after morning service. If you are interested in being baptized in the lake see Pastor Jim.
The Passion of Christ: this Wednesday, May 30, we will be showing the movie during our Wednesday night service to wrap up of our Way of the Master Seminar. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come watch it – even if you didn’t participate in the seminar. The movie will start at 6pm. If you know of someone who would like to see it, bring them along. The children’s classes will proceed as usual. It is up to the parent whether your child sees it but you need to know it is rated R and quite shocking to the viewer.
Memorial Day: We honor the final sacrifice of our service men and women by dedicating our own lives to peace and the defense of freedom. For these ideals they fought, and for these ideals we continue to strive. May we stand with diligence and with humility on the broad shoulders of those whose brave deeds and sacrifice we memorialize today. Let all of us commit this day, whether in public ceremony or in quiet reflection over a single grave, to remember them in fitting tribute." George W. Bush, President of the United States
THERE WILL BE NO SERVICE TONIGHT. Enjoy the holiday with someone you love. Say a prayer for our soldiers.
Board Meeting: June 5, 6:30pm, at the church.
Music Practice: Tuesday at 6:30pm.
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING continued By J. Richard Fugate
Children Must Obey Both Their Father and Mother
When a
government begins to misuse its authority, it goes
beyond its boundaries and begins to undermine
parental authority. The tendency then is to make the
child responsible to the state rather than to the
parents. Historically this has occurred many times
with tragic results. The governments of such nations
as Sparta, Hitler’s Germany, and Communist
Russia have usurped the parents’ role.
Currently, parental authority is being undermined in
America through compulsory public education, child
advocacy agencies, and child abuse laws. Parents must
not allow government to usurp their authority in
those areas in which God holds the parents alone
accountable. For example, parents have the explicit
instructions in the Bible to teach their children
information consistent with God’s Word. The
institution of government has no such instructions
and therefore has no authority above the parents to
teach children contrary information. In fact, no
instructions can be found in the Bible that grant
authority to government over children in any area
except that of upholding the parents’ position
of authority.
God
honors the value of parental authority so highly that
He instituted laws for government to protect the
parental authority from internal revolution by the
child himself. Rather than government being an agency
to do the job of parents, it is actually to be the
agency to enforce their position. Instead of invading
the family and taking away the responsibility of the
parents over the child, government is to ensure that
parents are not prevented from doing their job.
Children are not to be allowed to revolt against
their parents.
VBS
Meeting: Monday,
June 4, 6:30pm. Anyone who wants to help out this
year please come. If you want to help but can’t
attend the meeting, please let Robin know.
Guitar
Lessons: Our
instructor is on sabbatical. Next lesson will be June
13 at 5:30pm. In the meantime, practice, practice,
practice. Wondering if there is anyone wanting
lessons but doesn’t own a guitar. See Robin.
May
today be all that you need it to be. May the peace of
God and the freshness of the Holy Spirit rest in your
thoughts, rule in your dreams tonight and conquer all
your fears. May God manifest himself today in ways
that you have never experienced. May your joys be
fulfilled, your dreams be closer and your prayers be
answered. I pray that faith enters a new height for
you; I pray that your territory is enlarged and I
pray that you step into your destiny within the
ministry. I pray for peace, health, happiness and
true and undying love for God.
HAPPY
BIRTHDAY
