WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING continued
By J. Richard Fugate
Continued from the introduction: This system is divided into two distinct phases, controlling and teaching. The control phase is the establishment of the parents’ right of rulership over the will of the child. When parents can control their children, they have laid the necessary foundation for the fulfillment of the Biblical commandment for children to obey their parents. The teaching phase can only be accomplished by parents who have first trained their children to obey. Before a child will receive the instruction of his parents, he must first respect their word and before he will respect his parents’ word, he must first become obedient. Children will not accept instruction from those whom they do not respect. The Biblical commandment for children to honor their father and mother is fulfilled when children respect their parents enough to accept their advice and instructions in wisdom.
As a parent, you have only one chance with each child. You spend a major part of your life raising a child, and all that effort can seem painfully wasted unless there are positive results. Are you satisfied that you know how to handle that one chance to the benefit of your children? What is the cost to your children and to yourself if you fail to train them properly? These are awesome questions that every parent should face.
What is the answer? Is there a system for child training that you can know for sure is correct and can utilize to obtain the right results? This book sets forth the system for child training given in the Bible, a system you can use with confidence to become a successful parent.
God’s Promises To Parents
We know God has provided information in the Bible that parents need in order to train their children. God’s Word also promises that those parents who follow this truth will receive blessing, while those who do not will receive cursing.
The blessing in training children is realized in the joy and peace experienced by parents who faithfully utilize God’s truth during the training process. This blessing will be realized as the parents are able to observe the results of the training process throughout their children’s adult life. Parents do not normally recognize most of these blessings while the child is being trained. The joy begins when well-trained children become teenagers and then move into adulthood.
Can parents really experience joy during their children’s teen years? They not only can, but should, for it is during the teen years that the results of child training, good or bad, become self-evident. While children are young and tightly under extreme control, they will normally conform to their parents’ standards. However, when they become teenagers and choose to do what is right on their own, they reveal the true results of good parental training. Parents can experience true happiness in receiving the promises of God’s Word when their child has been well trained.
