Road Rage: An honest man was being tailgated by a stressed out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection. The tailgating woman hit the roof, and the horn, screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection, dropping her cell phone and makeup. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a holding cell. After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects. He said, “I’m very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the ‘Choose Life’ license plate holder, the ‘What Would Jesus Do’ bumper sticker, the ‘Follow Me to Sunday School’ bumper sticker, and the chrome plated Christian Fish emblem on the trunk. Naturally…I assumed you had stolen the car.”

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING continued By J. Richard Fugate
God could always control any individual who oversteps his boundaries, but often allows such a one to remain in his position of power to discipline the people or to test those under his rulership. God allows us to have exactly the kind of rulership we need to fulfill His plan for each of us.
Each human institution has been established by God for the protection and blessing of those within that institution. The various institutions provide a diversification of power, which restrains any evil leader from possessing absolute control. Historically, all evil leaders have always attempted to destroy the separate institutions and establish themselves as the absolute authority in place of God. Only God is capable of ruling through the multiple institutions because of His all power, all presence, and all knowledge.
Any problems concerning authority are not the fault of God’s principles, but are due to man’s failure to function properly according to God’s Word. You need to understand thoroughly the issue of authority because, as a parent, you are in one of these positions of authority. As a parent, you answer directly to God. You need to know the areas of your accountability, the boundaries of your rulership, and how to handle properly your responsibilities.

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8

year-olds, "What does love mean?"

the answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have

imagined. See what you think:

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her

toenails any more.

So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got

arthritis too. That's love."

 Rebecca- age 8

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different.

You just know that your name is safe in their mouth."

 Billy - age 4

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and

they go out and smell each other."

 Karl - age 5

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired."

Terri - age 4

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends

even after they know each other so well."

Tommy - age 6

Help Needed: Robin is looking for someone to help her serve food at the church on Saturday. See her for details.

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole, which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water, at the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do. After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house." The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house ." Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them. SO, to all of my crackpot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers on your side of the path!

By J. Richard Fugate

Principles of Authority

1. God is the ultimate authority. As the Creator, He has the right to rule His creation according to His will. God also possesses the absolute power to administer justice to all creatures.
2. God has established institutions such as government, marriage, and family for the orderly administration of His plan.

3. Each institution ordained by God has been arranged with definite positions of authority for the orderly function of that institution. Each institution is independent from every other institution and is directly accountable to God. Government is not a higher institution than marriage or family. The head of a family answers directly to God, as does the government leader. Both the king of a country and the father of a family are equally and independently responsible to God.
4. The one who is in the position of authority of an institution has the right of rulership over the subjects of that institution. This right to rule may be exercised only over those within an individual entity of that institution. If you are a father, you are the person in the position of authority over only your own family. You have no authority over any other family and no other father has any authority over your family. Each entity of a particular institution is independent of every other entity.
5. Every person is subject to one or more of these institutions at all times. For example, an individual is subject to the government, and a wife is subject to the husband in the family.
6. God’s Word gives specific boundaries for the power of each institution. Each position of rulership has defined limits in the extent of its authority. The boundaries include those who are subject to the authority as well as the extent to which they must submit. For example, government has the right to rule only within individual national boundaries. Government has no right to administer justice to other nations (except in self-defense) or to exercise authority over other independent institutions, like family or marriage. For another example, a father has the right to rule his own family, but even his authority has certain limitations as established by God. A father does not have the right to make his son steal.

WHAT
THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING continued By J. Richard Fugate

No Authority Exists Except As Appointed by God

Romans 13:1 “Let every soul be subject unto the higher power. For there is no
power but of God; the powers that be are ordained by God.”

The Greek word translated “power” means “authority, the right to decide or act, ruling or official powers.” God commands every individual to place himself willingly under the positions of rulership that exist above him. How do we dare do this? We can submit to our authorities because the verse then states that no ruling power exists except through God. Every position of authority is under His control. The verse continues by stating that all existing authorities have been established by God. The word translated “ordained” means “to place, station, appoint or determine someone into an official position over others.” It is the Greek word from which the theological term “institution” is derived. God has instituted all existing positions of rulership over His creatures to carry out His will and to administer justice to those under their rule.

WHY DO WE CLAP OUR HANDS? Psalm 47:1 O clap your hands all ye people; shout unto God with a voice of triumph. WHY DO WE RAISE OUR HANDS? Psalm 63:4 Thus will I bless Thee: I will lift up my hands in Thy name. WHY DO WE SING PRAISES? Psalm 147:1 Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant, and praise is comely. WHY DO WE DANCE? Psalm 149:3 Let them praise the Lord in the dance; let them sing praises unto Him with the timbrel and harp. WHY DO WE HAVE MUSIC IN OUR WORSHIP? Psalm 150:4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with the stringed instruments. WHY DO WE WORSHIP? Psalm 28:2 Give unto the Lord the glory due His name; worship him in the beauty of holiness.
