$2000 in 2010

Roscoe Village is offering a booth during the Apple Butter Stirin’ Festival on Oct. 16 -18. This could possibly be an opportunity to make some money towards our $2,000 pledge. The items for sale must be handmade crafts or original art. We would have to send in an application with a picture of the crafts being offered. Demonstrations are encouraged as well as costume although it’s not required. Anyone interested or have any ideas?

Shonda came up with a great idea for a fundraiser – selling delivered box lunches around town. Any thoughts?

Those of you who like home baked goods, keep checking the table in the lounge area. No guarantees, but periodically there will be items for sale there. There may be other items offered for sale as well.

GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED:
1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats..
2) When your Mom is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair.
3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back.. They always catch the second person.
4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food.
6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.
7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.
8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.

I dreamt that I went to Heaven and an angel was showing me around. We walked
side-by-side inside a large workroom filled with angels. My angel guide stopped in front of the first section and said, “This is the Receiving Section. Here, all petitions to God said in prayer are received.”

I looked around in this area, and it was terribly busy with so many angels sorting out petitions written on voluminous paper sheets and scraps from people all over the world. Then we moved on down a long corridor until we reached the second section. The angel then said to me, “This is the Packaging and Delivery Section. Here, the graces and blessings the people asked for are processed and delivered to the living persons who asked for them.” I noticed again how busy it was there. There were many angels working hard at that station, since so many blessings had been requested and were being packaged for delivery to Earth.

Finally at the farthest end of the long corridor we stopped at the door of a very small station. To my great surprise, only one angel was seated there, idly doing nothing. “This is the Acknowledgment Section,” my angel friend quietly admitted to me. He seemed embarrassed. “How is it that there is no work going on here?” I asked.

”So sad,” the angel sighed. “After people receive the blessings that they asked for, very few send back acknowledgments.”

”How does one acknowledge God's blessings?” I asked.

”Simple,” the angel answered. “Just say, Thank you, Lord.”

”What blessings should they acknowledge?” I asked.

”If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish, you are among the top 8% of the world 's wealthy. If you woke up this morning with more health than illness you are more blessed than the many who will not even survive this day.

If you have never experienced the fear in battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation you are ahead of 700 million people in the world.
If you can attend a place of worship without the fear of harassment, arrest torture or death you are envied by, and more blessed than, three billion people in the world.
If your parents are still alive and still married you are very rare. If you can hold your head up and smile, you are not the norm, you're unique to all those in doubt and despair. If you can read this message, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all.
Acknowledge Dept.
: Thank you Lord, for giving me the ability to share this message and for
giving me so many wonderful people with whom to share it.

How to stop a Church Gossip

Mildred, the church gossip, and self-appointed monitor of the church's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business.
Several members did not approve of her extra curricular activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused Frank, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the town's only bar one afternoon.
She emphatically told Frank (and several others) that every one seeing it there WOULD KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING !
Frank, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away. He didn't explain, defend, or deny. He said nothing..

Later that evening, Frank quietly parked his pickup in front of Mildred's house ... walked home .....and left it there all night.
(You gotta love Frank!)

A father passing by his son’s bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an envelope propped up prominently on the center of the bed. It was addressed, “Dad” With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter with trembling hands:

Dear Dad,
It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with mom and you. I’ve been finding real passion with Joan and she id do nice – even with all her piercing, tattoos, and her tight motorcycle clothes. But it’s not only the passion, Dad, she’s pregnant and Joan said that we will be very happy together. Even though you don’t care for her as she is so much older than I, she already owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. She wants to have many more children with me and that’s now one of my dreams too. Joan taught me that marijuana doesn’t really hurt anyone and we’ll be growing it for us and trading it with her friends for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want.
In the meantime, we’ll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Joan can get better, she deserves it! Don’t worry, Dad, I’m 15 years old now! And I know how to take care of myself. Someday I’m sure we’ll be back to visit so you can get to know your grandchildren.

Your son, John

P.S. Dad, none of the above is true. I’m over at the neighbor’s house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than my report card that’s in my center desk drawer. I love you! Call when it is safe for me to come home.
