Donations are needed for the silent auction at the Christmas Party on December 15. Gently used items in good shape are fine or an antique item that would make a nice gift. We thought perhaps you could find some items to use as Christmas gifts. So if you have something that would make a suitable gift, please consider donating it to our auction. If you have something to donate, please see Brandy Mullins or Julie Mulford. Thank you.

A Thanksgiving Fellowship is planned for November 19 right after service. Please sign-up on the sheet hanging on the bulletin board in the vestibule at the Walnut Street entrance. This will be a covered dish dinner. We have 2 turkeys coming already but wondered if someone would do a ham? Following the beginning initial of your last name: A – J bring a side dish; K – P bring a dessert; Q – Z bring a drink.

VBS Meeting: There will be a short meeting on Monday, November 6. Will last around an hour. This year’s program will be created by WWC talent rather than purchasing a pre-made program. We need actors to come especially to help put this together. This meeting is for everyone who is interested in ministering to the kids.

We passed out 420 gospel tracts in the plaza on Thursday. We actually ran out of tracts; probably could have used 50 more. So please pray for the homes that received the gospel that night, that they’ll be drawn by God’s Word.

Acquire the Fire: Ernie and Teresa Carpenter will be taking the youth group to the convention in Cleveland. They will be leaving the church parking lot at 10am on Friday. You are welcome to come pray with them before they leave. They can always use baked goods, munchies and pop for their trip if you’d like to bless them
Just bring it Wednesday night or Friday morning. Thanks.

Spaghetti Dinner: Tony and Connie Williams would like anyone who still needs tickets to see them. The dinner is Friday, Nov. 3, at 5pm. Friendly Reminder: if you have tickets or donations they need to be turned in by Wednesday night. One more thing: You have left us speechless once again! Your love is amazing!!

There will be no Sunday Night Service until further notice. Pray for Pastor to regain his strength.

Women of Witness Need: I have a request for a twin size bed for an elderly person. Contact Robin if you have one you don’t need. Thanks.

Emergency Utilities Ministry: I am starting a fund as a part of our Love Workshop Ministry, to help those I come in contact with through my Women of Witness work who need help in these areas. (Women of Witness operates on very little funding) If you can help with this at any point, put it in an offering envelope and mark it: Love Workshop Emergency Fund. A great big thank you to those of you who helped the family a couple of weeks ago. We were able to give them $20 worth of kerosene to get them through that cold snap. They were very appreciative of the help given in the Lord’s name.

Christmas Blessings: It is time to begin our Christmas Blessings collections for this year. This is a yearly ministry where we gift families with groceries to help them get through the holiday pressures and to honor the Lord. Enclosed is a shopping list for your consideration.

The Marine's Father A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside. "Your son is here," she said to the old man.  She had to repeat the words several times before the patient's eyes opened.  Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent.  He reached out his hand.  The Marine wrapped his   toughened fingers around the old man's limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.  The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man's hand and offering him words of love and strength.  Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile.  He refused.  Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital.  The clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.     Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words.  The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night.  Along towards dawn, the old man died.  The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse.    While she did what she had to do, he waited.  Finally, she returned.  She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her.  "Who was that man?" he asked.     The nurse was startled, "He was your father," she answered.     "No, he wasn't," the Marine replied.  "I never saw him before in my life."     "Then why didn't you say something when I took you to him?"     "I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn't here.  When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, knowing how much he needed me, I stayed."  The next time someone needs you just be there.  Stay.  We are not human beings going through a temporary spiritual experience.    We are spiritual beings going through a temporary human experience.

You have every opportunity to be the hands, feet, legs, arms, eyes, ears and love of Jesus to this world of lost and dieing souls. Are you finding ways to be used or are you just living your life in your own little world allowing yourself to be oblivious to the needs of the lives that surround you? Ask your God to help you. He’s there.
