Answered Prayer: It was the day after Christmas at a church in San Francisco. The pastor of the church was looking over the crèche when he noticed that the baby Jesus was missing from among the figures. He hurried outside and saw a little boy with a red wagon, and in the wagon was the figure of the little infant Jesus. So he walked up to the boy and said, "Well, where did you get your passenger, my fine friend?"
The little boy replied, "I got Him at church."
"And why did you take Him?"
The boy explained, "Well, about a week before Christmas I prayed to the little Lord Jesus and I told Him if He would bring me a red wagon for Christmas I would give Him a ride around the block in it."
Reflections of 2007 What a year is was!!!!
January: Tony Williams had surgery, Rick Carpenter was diagnosed with cancer, Doris Huston had open heart surgery, Cheryl Matthews dealt with kidney stones, Mary Dawson had a broken arm from a fall, and we received news of our friend Jim Davis facing cancer. Deb Frye move; we lost our friend, Jim Davis, to cancer; we helped Rite-Aid raise money for Children’s Hospital; sold food at a convention to raise funds to help Jasmine Bryan’s family.
May: Heidi Ross had a car accident with her uncle-lots of prayer involved; we had a Mother/Daughter Banquet with Lena Crouso as guest speaker; Robin spoke at 2 Mother/Daughter Banquets; we helped at the Women of Witness National Day of Prayer Ceremony with a Balloon Launch for the kids; Way of the Master wrapped up with showing The Passion of Christ.

There is a box of coloring books and crayons on the chair at the front of the Sanctuary. These were left at the Christmas Party. Kids, if you didn’t get yours, please feel free to look through them and take yours home.
There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled people. What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, Swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas? Here it is. From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were Not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: The surface meaning. Plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. -The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
-Two turtledoves were the Old and New Testaments.
-Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
-The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
-The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
-The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
-Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy
Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
-The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
-Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy,
Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control.
-The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.
-The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
-The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

Christmas Blessings: We are in our final week of collecting for our food drive. We will meet Saturday morning at 9 am to distribute what we have. As you donate, I know God is receiving your offering unto himself.
Matthew 25:34-40 Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go visit you?” The King will reply, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
I have met (through Women of Witness) a lady who I would like for us to “adopt” with gifts for her grandchildren as well. They don’t need much but something would be nice. These are 3 little girls – ages 10, 4 and 3. If you happen to have extra, please remember this family.

CORRECTION:
Sis. Cindy Coakley sent a letter home with the
Wednesday night kids about the ECF Program at the
hospital. Please note – the correct date is the
21st
and
not the 12th
as
stated in the letter. Sorry about the mix-up.
When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one
card and send it to this address. They will deliver
the cards to recovering soldiers.
If we pass
this on to all of our friends and everyone sends one
card, think of how many cards these wonderful special
people who have sacrificed so much would get.

PARENTAL ALERT: THE GOLDEN
COMPASS [Please take this seriously]
THE
GOLDEN COMPASS movie is based on a trilogy of
children’s books by British author, Philip
Pullman, who is an avowed atheist who has dedicated
his life to undermining Christianity and the Church,
especially among young readers. One of
Pullman’s goals in writing these books is to be
the “anti-Narnia”
series.
FIRST: The
message of the movie, and the books on which it is
based, is anti-Christian propaganda. THE GOLDEN
COMPASS movie features a dishonest, selfish and
stubborn heroine and is the opening to a story that
glorifies atheism (primarily in the later two books).
We believe in freedom of the press. Anyone can write
a book or screenplay that makes Christians look
sinister, stupid or wicked. That does NOT mean
Christian parents need to buy that message and feed
it to their children.
SECOND:
In the
movie business, the purchase of a ticket, or DVD, is
a vote for more of something. If a studio loses money
on an expensive anti-Christian adventure it is less
likely to make more of the same. In this case, THE
GOLDEN COMPASS is the first part of a trilogy that
gets worse as it progresses. If THE GOLDEN COMPASS is
a monumental flop the second and third book may never
get made into movies.
While THE GOLDEN
COMPASS movie is not as overtly anti-Christian as the
books by looking at some of the excerpts from the
novel you can see what the author hopes to teach
children:
One
fallen angel tells one of the novel’s young
heroes, “The Authority, God, the Creator, the
Lord, Yahweh, El, Adonai, the King, the Father, the
Almighty – those were all names he gave
himself. He was never the creator. He was an angel
like ourselves – the first angel, true, the
most powerful, but he was formed of Dust as we are,
and Dust is only a name for what happens when matter
begins to understand itself.”
When the heroine finally finds this
“god,” he is ultimately described as a
“demented and powerless” creature that
“could only weep and mumble in fear and pain
and misery.” The boy then kills this
“god” by breaking him out of his crystal
cell, thereby evaporating him. The only
“god” in this universe is matter.
In the book, the Church is depicted as an
organization bent on power, control and the torture
of children by cutting.
The
heroine in the story turns from the Church when she
realizes, “there wasn’t any God at all
and... the Christian religion is a very powerful and
convincing mistake, that’s all.” Children
learn scripts of behavior from the movies and
entertainment. The role model in this movie is Lyra
who is commended for lying, stealing, cheating, and
trying to kill her mother. Even worse, the official
website has an area where children can meet their own
daemon. It says: “To discover your very own
Daemon, look into your heart, and answer the
following twenty questions openly and honestly. Your
true character and the form of your Daemon will be
reveled…”
