A Call to Intercessory Prayer

For many reasons, 2008 is a crucial year—a year of challenges and, of course, a year of decisions. We face a difficult economy, a morally deficient society, and an uncertain future. In November we elect a new President and Vice President, along with thousands of leaders nationwide.
Between now and Election Day, thousands of churches will be interceding for our country. Through this historic initiative called Praying4America, congregations from coast to coast will experience the power of intensive, purposeful prayer. The goal of this initiative is clear: A Nation Awakened, Churches Renewed, Lives Transformed. America will feel the impact as God’s people seize this opportunity.
Praying4America is based on a simple plan: 30 days of focused intercession for every key area of American life. Participants in each church will pray for a few minutes every day for that day’s specific requests. By the end of the 30 days, they will have prayed across America. And, in the process, their own lives will be enriched, the church will be energized, and communities throughout the nation will be spiritually stirred.

Praying4America is unique because it doesn’t interfere with other church activities. In fact, it complements all other activities as it deepens the devotional life of the church. We will begin on October 4 and conclude just before Election Day.

Strategic, focused, purposeful prayer makes such an impact! The spiritual health of our country is at stake, and prayer can make the difference! Please join in with your prayers.
Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer IS the greater work. –Oswald Chambers-

Whenever you come to a request for a specific state or territory in the daily list, remember these priorities:

• Pray for the leaders of the state, that God’s Spirit would guide them to act justly, serve with integrity and uphold high moral standards.

• Pray for the churches of the state, that they would be lighthouses of truth, havens of hope, and centers of love for all people.

• Pray for the Christians of the state, that they would be faithful witnesses for Christ, humble servants of God, and positive influences on society.

Oct. 4 - 1. Pray for a great outpouring of God’s Spirit on America. (Joel 2:28; Acts 2:17) 2. Pray for the President and Vice President, that their hearts would be guided by God, that their decisions would be wise, and that their leadership would be principled.

Oct. 5 – 1. Pray for the leaders, churches and Christians of Alabama and Alaska. 2. Pray for Christian leaders across America would seek God’s heart for vision, wisdom and direction. (Jer. 33:3)

Be sure to check the bulletin each week for the next prayer list.
