A Riddle: What is greater than God, More evil than the devil, The poor have it, The rich need it, And if you eat it, you'll die?
The Neighbor Next Door There was a little old lady who would come out every morning on the steps of her front porch, raise her arms to the sky, and shout, "Praise the Lord!" Well, one day an atheist moved into the house next door. Over time, he became irritated at the little old lady. So every morning he would step out onto his front porch and yell after her, "There is no Lord!" Time passed with the two of them carrying on this way every day. Then one morning in the middle of winter, the little old lady stepped onto her font porch and shouted, "Praise the Lord! Lord, I have no food and I am starving. Please provide for me, oh Lord!" The next morning, she stepped onto her porch and there were two huge bags of groceries sitting there. Praise the Lord!" she cried out. "He has provided groceries for me!" The atheist jumped out of the hedges and shouted, "There is no Lord. I bought those groceries!" The little old lady threw her arms into the air and shouted, "Praise the Lord! He provided me with groceries, and He made the devil pay for them!"

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING
continued
By J. Richard Fugate
Continued
from the introduction: Parents
who utilize this system consistently from the time
their children are very young have God’s
guarantee of success. It is possible for even those
parents who have failed in training their child
during the early years to gain control and still
produce an obedient and respectful child.
Proverbs 10:1a “…A wise son maketh a
glad father.”
Proverbs 23:24 & 25 “The father of the
righteous shall greatly rejoice, and he that
begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. Thy
father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that
bore thee shall rejoice.”
Proverbs 29:17 “Correct thy son, and he shall
give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy
soul.”
Proverbs 31:28 “Her children rise up, and call
her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth
her.”
God’s
Word often contrasts wisdom with foolishness. One who
acts wisely is one who utilizes truth in living,
while the fool is one who goes his own way in
ignorance or in rebellion. The previous Bible verses
promise great joy and happiness to parents who raise
a wise child. In the Proverbs 31:28 passage, a mother
is shown to receive special honor as her children
grow up and begin to glorify her through their lives.
What a contrast to the conditions in our civilization
today in which the m other is neither respected in
her role nor appreciated for her teaching.
The
present condition in our civilization demonstrates
how far our culture has deviated from the truth of
God’s Word. The Bible is not unrealistic, we
are merely reaping the cursing that results from
man’s failure to utilize God’s truth.
Parents who resort to a human system of child
training will miss the blessings promised by God and
receive instead the natural consequences of cursing
for ignorance of, or disobedience to, truth.
The Cursing
Proverbs
10:1b “…a foolish son is the heaviness
of his mother.”
Proverbs 17:21 “He that begetteth a fool doeth
it to his sorrow; and the father of a fool hath no
joy.”
Proverbs 29:15b “…a child left to
himself bringeth his mother to shame.”
These verses give a clear description of what parents
will experience if they fail in training their
children. The heaviness that the mother will feel in
raising a foolish child is the weight of sadness and
extreme sorrow. She will even experience shame from
raising a child who is sent off to face life without
being properly trained. The father of a fool (one who
rejects both God and the truth of God’s Word)
will also experience sadness and a lack of internal
happiness.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING continued
By J. Richard Fugate
Continued from the introduction: This system is divided into two distinct phases, controlling and teaching. The control phase is the establishment of the parents’ right of rulership over the will of the child. When parents can control their children, they have laid the necessary foundation for the fulfillment of the Biblical commandment for children to obey their parents. The teaching phase can only be accomplished by parents who have first trained their children to obey. Before a child will receive the instruction of his parents, he must first respect their word and before he will respect his parents’ word, he must first become obedient. Children will not accept instruction from those whom they do not respect. The Biblical commandment for children to honor their father and mother is fulfilled when children respect their parents enough to accept their advice and instructions in wisdom.
As a parent, you have only one chance with each child. You spend a major part of your life raising a child, and all that effort can seem painfully wasted unless there are positive results. Are you satisfied that you know how to handle that one chance to the benefit of your children? What is the cost to your children and to yourself if you fail to train them properly? These are awesome questions that every parent should face.
What is the answer? Is there a system for child training that you can know for sure is correct and can utilize to obtain the right results? This book sets forth the system for child training given in the Bible, a system you can use with confidence to become a successful parent.
God’s Promises To Parents
We know God has provided information in the Bible that parents need in order to train their children. God’s Word also promises that those parents who follow this truth will receive blessing, while those who do not will receive cursing.
The blessing in training children is realized in the joy and peace experienced by parents who faithfully utilize God’s truth during the training process. This blessing will be realized as the parents are able to observe the results of the training process throughout their children’s adult life. Parents do not normally recognize most of these blessings while the child is being trained. The joy begins when well-trained children become teenagers and then move into adulthood.
Can parents really experience joy during their children’s teen years? They not only can, but should, for it is during the teen years that the results of child training, good or bad, become self-evident. While children are young and tightly under extreme control, they will normally conform to their parents’ standards. However, when they become teenagers and choose to do what is right on their own, they reveal the true results of good parental training. Parents can experience true happiness in receiving the promises of God’s Word when their child has been well trained.

Don't put a question mark where God put a period.
Give God what's right, not what's left!
Never give the devil a ride! He will always want to drive!
We set the sail; God makes the wind.
To be almost saved, is to be totally lost.
If we don't change the Message, the Message can change us.
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING
By J. Richard Fugate
From the introduction: This book is a study designed to help parents better understand their role as parents and to discover the mechanics for successfully raising children. To accomplish these ends this book will carefully define parental accountability, authority, and responsibility. It will also describe the nature of a child and explain his different stages of development. With these principles firmly established, the book will present the Biblical system for training children.
Being a parent today is a difficult and often bewildering challenge. There are so many conflicting theories about child training that even the reputed “experts” disagree with each other. Everyone has his own opinion on how children should be raised. Some psychologists propose that parents should treat their children as equals. They say that parents should sit down with their child and reason things out together as if the child were an adult. Society has generally adopted the concept of children’s rights. In other words, the child is to be treated as an equal in society, in the school, and even with the parents in the family.
There also exist today certain advocates of the theory that parental use of physical discipline constitutes child abuse. This theory causes some parents to question their right to discipline their own children. Then there are those from the religious community with a confused view of love who equate love with permissiveness. This approach produces uncontrollable teenagers.
It is no surprise that such confusion about child rearing exists. About the only thing the reputed “experts” do agree upon is :”there is no set pattern for training children.” In other words, they say that there is no one right way to parent. With expert advise like this, it is no wonder that the past several generations of parents have been less than successful in raising their children. Parents have had few dependable authorities to whom they could turn for information.
Many parents have developed their own system of raising children. Such a system probably contains the elements of behavior modification and permissiveness mixed with the use of force when all else fails. The important question is, how do parents know when their own system is correct? Parents must recognize that the physical ability to have children does not qualify them for the task of properly rearing children.
Where do parents obtain training in the proper rearing of children? Some parents may expect for their training to come from the trial and error method – the hope that the second child will benefit from the mistakes made with the first, that the third will benefit from the mistakes made with the second, and so forth. Other parents believe they can be successful by simply avoiding the mistakes they think that their own parents made. To Be Continued next week.

New Years Eve Service: It was a blessed time! There is nothing like being in the presence of God as the new year comes in. I spent plenty of years celebrating as the world does, partying until the ball dropped or I did whichever came first. It is like the difference between a piece of garbage and a beautiful diamond! If you couldn’t make it I am sorry for you that you had to miss it. But there’s always next year – unless Jesus comes back.

We need your help! Coshocton County Family and Children First Council and Partnerships for Success will soon be implementing PAX Play at our local elementary schools. Please look over the information below and pass this information along to others. We need MANY community volunteers and are hoping that our local Churches, Clubs, Businesses and other organizations would be interested in "adopting" these elementary schools.
What is PAX Play? Thank you for your interest in PAX PLAY, designed by Dr. Richard Embry, Founder of the PAX PLAY model. The Coshocton County Family and Children First Council and Partnerships for Success will be implementing PAX Play at interested elementary schools as soon as January 2007. PAX Play is an evidence-based "kernel" designed to reduce bullying and aggressive behaviors throughout the school day by facilitating organized play during recess.
How does PAX Play work? The ability to interact in positive, non-aggressive, collaborative ways with others is one of the most fundamental goals of development and much of the learning of these behaviors is done through play. Research has shown that aggressive behaviors of elementary school children are reduced when free (unstructured play) is replaced by organized games. Organized play during recess significantly reduces the frequency of inappropriate behavior not only during recess, but throughout the school day. In short, modification of aggressive behaviors in young children is the primary focus of the Pax Play Initiative. There are two components to PAX Play;
1) Organized Play Facilitation
2) Evaluation
