No Authority Exists Except As Appointed by God

Romans 13:1 “Let every soul be subject unto the higher power. For there is no
power but of God; the powers that be are ordained by God.”

The Greek word translated “power” means “authority, the right to decide or act, ruling or official powers.” God commands every individual to place himself willingly under the positions of rulership that exist above him. How do we dare do this? We can submit to our authorities because the verse then states that no ruling power exists except through God. Every position of authority is under His control. The verse continues by stating that all existing authorities have been established by God. The word translated “ordained” means “to place, station, appoint or determine someone into an official position over others.” It is the Greek word from which the theological term “institution” is derived. God has instituted all existing positions of rulership over His creatures to carry out His will and to administer justice to those under their rule.

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about all kinds of things. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."  "Why do you say that?" asked the customer.  "Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things."  The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument!  The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist." "How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!" "No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside." "Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people do not come to me." "Exactly!"- Affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens, is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

Give me one pure and holy passion; Give me one magnificent obsession; Give me one glorious ambition for my life; To know and follow hard after God.

God Is The Ultimate Authority
Daniel 4:35 “And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and
he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among
the inhabitants of the earth, and none can stay His hand, or say
unto Him, What doest thou?”
“And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing” is a relative statement. It establishes a relationship between God’s absolute position of authority (right to rule) and mankind’s position of authority. Nebuchadnezzar, the speaker in this verse, is king over a mighty kingdom, and he is saying that even as king he has no right to say to God, “What are you doing?” Notice that the boundaries of God’s rule include both the inhabitants of earth and the entire angelic creation.
The conclusion from these verses, and many others on the subject, is that God as the Creator has the right to set the policy for all His creation according to His own will. He has the ultimate position of rulership above all the creatures whereby He may direct their actions. He also has the power to administer justice; in other words, the authority belongs to God, any legitimate right to rule must be delegated by Him.

Man’s Good Advice:
1. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.
2. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their
conversational skills will be as important as any other.
3. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.
4. When you say, "I love you," mean it.
5. When you say, "I'm sorry," look the person in the eye.
6. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.
7. Don't judge people by their relatives.
8. Talk slowly but think quickly.
9. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; and
responsibility for all your actions.
10. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to
correct it.
God’s Perfect Advice:
1. A good name is more desirable than great riches.
2. He who sows wickedness reaps trouble.
3. The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears
hers down.
4. He who spares the rod-hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline
him.
5. A cheerful look brings joy to the heart.
6. How much better to get wisdom than gold.
7. Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent.
8. A wise son heeds his father’s instruction.
9. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
10. Listen to advice and accept instruction.

Praise Report: Jim Davis, who has been on our prayer list several times, has gone into remission from his liver cancer. He is giving the glory to God. Let’s join him in praise to our Father!! Rick Carpenter had a kidney removed but doesn’t have to have any chemo treatments because they believe all of the cancer was removed. Praise God! We serve a wonderful, prayer answering God. We’ve much to praise Him for!

Beginners Guitar Course: Lessons will begin on April 5 at 6pm for anyone aged 10 years old and up. Anyone is welcome, even if they don’t attend our church. Students will need their own guitar. Lessons will last anywhere from 1 to 1½ hours, depending on the need, and will be every Thursday. There will be a sign up sheet at the register in the Central Elementary side vestibule. Crooning for Christ: The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. 1 Cor. 12:12 Now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is a part of it. And in the church, God has appointed…those able to help others… 1 Cor. 12:27,28 …by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35 No one came to the meeting. Sister Cheryl Matthews is working as hard as she can but she has no car. Is there ANYONE who will help put up posters and sell tickets? Is there ANYONE who listens to the urgings of the Spirit of God and obeys? As you can see in the above Scriptures He has put a call out there to help those who are in need. Not only does Cheryl need help, the alternative school needs help, and the children who attend that school desperately need help. Surely your personal desires aren’t more important? Or are they?

Sister Cindy Coakley will be heading up the Food Stand at the Crooning for Christ Concert and would like some help. If you can donate any of the following items please let her know. Coffee, Pop, Chips, hot dogs, sloppy joe, shredded chicken, buns, candy, onions, relish, ketchup, mustard, coney sauce or cheese. Thank you.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING continued
By J. Richard Fugate
Continued from the introduction: [This book] ia a logical presentation of the systematic procedure found in God’s Word that can be utilized by parents in first controlling their children and then teaching them to reach God’s intended objective. This system of child training has been used by many families with dramatic results, thus providing the proof that testifies of all truth – IT WORKS!

God Is The Ultimate Authority

Psalms 47:2 “For the Lord Most High is awe inspiring; he is a great King over
all the earth.”
Psalms 83:18 “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is the Lord, art
the Most High over all the earth.”
The word translated “most high” is a title, and is used in Scripture for God only. This title of “most high” is never given to a member of the human race in his role as ruler. It is a title to describe God’s absolute position of authority. He is the Most High. There is none other above Him with any right to rule.

Daniel 4:34b “…I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored him who
liveth forever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His
kingdom is from generation to generation.”
This passage recognizes the extent of God’s rule. There is no end to the reign of God. His timelessness strikes a sobering contrast to the insignificant period of time in which any human authority can exercise rulership. God is always in control.

Psalms 115:3 “But our God is in the heavens; he hath done whatsoever he hath
pleased.”
Romans 9:20b & 21 “…Shall the thing formed say to Him that formed it, Why
hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over
the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honor,
and another unto dishonor?”
God is the Creator. He has the right to rule whatever He creates. In other words, He has the total right to rule His creatures according to His will.

Kids Website: I found a pretty neat website that would be good for kids. www.kids4truth.com I clicked on multimedia dynamations and then “Watchmaker” It was a pretty good presentation of creation fashioned in a way kids can understand.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING continued
By J. Richard Fugate
Continued from the introduction: It is the author’s prayer that this book may begin a return to God’s Word for the information that will enable mankind to find God’s purpose for life. The results would not only be the restoration of our civilization, but also the glorification of God.
Principles of Authority
Authority! Here is a word that all rebels hate. Authority is a concept that causes a negative response in those who do not understand its proper meaning and use. Recent generations almost react as if they had been programmed against even the legitimate use of authority. A general attitude exists today of distrust and disrespect for all positions of rulership. The misunderstanding of God’s principles for authority, added to experience with authoritarians who have truly misused their power, has caused many to reject the concept altogether. Many parents have
abdicated their role and have withdrawn from even the proper use of authority.
We need to study the principles of authority so that we will not be deceived into a programmed response against the very system God has established for our freedom. First, we will look at the definition of authority. From that definition we will study some characteristics of God’s authority and determine the principles for human authority.
Authority means “the right to rule; the power to act, decide, command, and judge.” It is the right to set policy, the rulership to command subordinates, and the power to administer judgment to those who disobey the commands or to reward those who conform.
At first glance, it may appear that authority is unbridled power which can be used to oppress those who are subject to it. Although it is true that there are, and always have been, those who abuse the power of authority, these exceptions do not change the principle. The power of authority is not without controls or limits. God has established rules and boundaries to govern the use of all authority. Even more importantly, God is always in control. He has the position and the power to enforce His will over all other authorities.

A little boy was overheard praying: "Lord, if you can't make me a better boy, don't worry about it. I'm having a real good time like I am."

After the christening of his baby brother in church, Jason sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the car. His father asked him three times what was wrong. Finally, the boy replied, "That preacher said he wanted us brought up in a Christian home, And I wanted to stay with you guys."

One particular four-year-old prayed, “And forgive us our trash baskets As we forgive those who put trash in our baskets.”
3-year-old Reese: “Our Father, Who does art in heaven, Harold is His name. Amen.”
