WE NEED YOUR HELP Bake Sale/Car Wash: Our Youth Group is having a car wash & bake sale at Auto Zone on June 9th from 7:30 – 3:30. The more hands there are to wash cars the better. Any baked goods would be appreciated as well. Contact Teresa or Ernie about scheduling a time to help or to donate baked goods for the sale.
Mark Your Calendar: Our Lake Park Fellowship will take place on Father’s Day this year. Bring a covered dish of some sort and come fellowship right after morning service. If you are interested in being baptized in the lake see Pastor Jim.
The Passion of Christ: this Wednesday, May 30, we will be showing the movie during our Wednesday night service to wrap up of our Way of the Master Seminar. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come watch it – even if you didn’t participate in the seminar. The movie will start at 6pm. If you know of someone who would like to see it, bring them along. The children’s classes will proceed as usual. It is up to the parent whether your child sees it but you need to know it is rated R and quite shocking to the viewer.
Memorial Day: We honor the final sacrifice of our service men and women by dedicating our own lives to peace and the defense of freedom. For these ideals they fought, and for these ideals we continue to strive. May we stand with diligence and with humility on the broad shoulders of those whose brave deeds and sacrifice we memorialize today. Let all of us commit this day, whether in public ceremony or in quiet reflection over a single grave, to remember them in fitting tribute." George W. Bush, President of the United States
THERE WILL BE NO SERVICE TONIGHT. Enjoy the holiday with someone you love. Say a prayer for our soldiers.
Board Meeting: June 5, 6:30pm, at the church.
Music Practice: Tuesday at 6:30pm.
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING continued By J. Richard Fugate
Children Must Obey Both Their Father and Mother
When a
government begins to misuse its authority, it goes
beyond its boundaries and begins to undermine
parental authority. The tendency then is to make the
child responsible to the state rather than to the
parents. Historically this has occurred many times
with tragic results. The governments of such nations
as Sparta, Hitler’s Germany, and Communist
Russia have usurped the parents’ role.
Currently, parental authority is being undermined in
America through compulsory public education, child
advocacy agencies, and child abuse laws. Parents must
not allow government to usurp their authority in
those areas in which God holds the parents alone
accountable. For example, parents have the explicit
instructions in the Bible to teach their children
information consistent with God’s Word. The
institution of government has no such instructions
and therefore has no authority above the parents to
teach children contrary information. In fact, no
instructions can be found in the Bible that grant
authority to government over children in any area
except that of upholding the parents’ position
of authority.
God
honors the value of parental authority so highly that
He instituted laws for government to protect the
parental authority from internal revolution by the
child himself. Rather than government being an agency
to do the job of parents, it is actually to be the
agency to enforce their position. Instead of invading
the family and taking away the responsibility of the
parents over the child, government is to ensure that
parents are not prevented from doing their job.
Children are not to be allowed to revolt against
their parents.
VBS
Meeting: Monday,
June 4, 6:30pm. Anyone who wants to help out this
year please come. If you want to help but can’t
attend the meeting, please let Robin know.
Guitar
Lessons: Our
instructor is on sabbatical. Next lesson will be June
13 at 5:30pm. In the meantime, practice, practice,
practice. Wondering if there is anyone wanting
lessons but doesn’t own a guitar. See Robin.
May
today be all that you need it to be. May the peace of
God and the freshness of the Holy Spirit rest in your
thoughts, rule in your dreams tonight and conquer all
your fears. May God manifest himself today in ways
that you have never experienced. May your joys be
fulfilled, your dreams be closer and your prayers be
answered. I pray that faith enters a new height for
you; I pray that your territory is enlarged and I
pray that you step into your destiny within the
ministry. I pray for peace, health, happiness and
true and undying love for God.

Clothing: There are clothes free for the taking hanging on the coat racks at both doors and some more downstairs sorted by size on the tables. Please help yourself. There are also hangers downstairs in boxes under the tables. Take anything you can use. These are mostly women’s clothes but there are a few men’s shirts behind the sanctuary door on the Walnut Street entrance side.
Memorial Day: Originally called Decoration Day. It’s a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. A day for us to remember and honor the gallant souls who laid down their lives in the service of our great nation. It's become a day when families and friends get together and enjoy one another. It probably evolved to this place when the death of a loved one made folks realize they needed to enjoy the company of each other while they could. There will be no evening service next Sunday night in honor of the holiday as it was and as it is. Spend some time with your family and friends.
The Way of the Master: This coming Saturday, May 26, we will be going to Lake Park to pass out tracts and witness as the opportunity arises. We will meet at the church between 10am and 10:30am. We will leave promptly at 10:30. All class members are expected to come. You are welcome to join us even if you haven’t attended the classes.
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING continued By J. Richard Fugate
Children Must Obey Both Their Father and Mother
The
boundary for parental authority is more extensive
than that of any other institution. This is true
because the parents’ right to rule includes the
power to force obedience to their will in all things.
No other institution is given this much power. The
subjects of other institutions are to submit to their
authorities, but the child is commanded to obey his
parents. The basic difference between the Greek words
translated “submit” and
“obey” is that submission appeals to the
attitude of voluntary acceptance of authority,
whereas obedience is compliance with the authority
whether the subject wills to or not. Parents not only
have the right to rule in all things, they also have
the power to enforce their child’s unwilling
compliance to their commands.
Parental
authority delegates to parents the right to rule the
children under their control. No other institution or
person has rulership rights over children. Neither
society, school personnel, nosey individuals, nor
even other institutions have any authority over
children. The parents’ power over their
children is accountable to government only through
God’s laws concerning incest, injury, and
murder. Parents are directly responsible to God for
any misuse of their authority. There is no such thing
as “child rights” sanctioned by the Word
of God. The child has only the God-given right to be
raised by his parents without the intervention of any
other institution.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING continued By J. Richard Fugate
Children Must Obey Both Their Father and Mother
Colossians 3:20a “Children obey your parents in all things;”
The word translated “obey” from the Greek language is a command and means “to hear and obey.” In other words, this passage says children must do what they are told. This means that a parent’s word is law for children. You may never have considered yourself to be someone who has the right to create law, but as far as your child is concerned, your word is law. If your child is disobedient to your word, he has broken the law you have set for him. Your children are to do what you tell them to do. Even though this command is addressed to children, parents, as the ones who are in charge, are accountable for its fulfillment as long as the children are under their control. God always holds the ones in authority responsible for the actions of those under their rulership. The parents are accountable to God for the obedience of their children. A parallel to this principle is that God has commanded man not to commit murder., but He has given government the responsibility and the power to administer the judgment of the death penalty. In the same way, God has given parents the power to enforce the child’s compliance to obey his parents in all things.

Guitar Lessons: Thursday, 6:00pm, here at the church.
Mother/Daughter Banquet: This Saturday, May 12, 1:00pm, at Kid’s America. Plan to bring a covered dish according to the following plan. If your last name begins with: A – D Meat; E – I Casserole; J – M Vegetable; N – R Rolls or Bread; S – U Dessert; V – Z Beverage. See you there!
National Day of Prayer: This was an inspiring event that blessed the very heart and soul of those who took the time to participate. You also blessed the community in the outpouring of God’s Word upon the land. If you didn’t attend, you missed a powerful opportunity to share a Godly event with your child/children. This type of activity does more for kids than any movie at the theater, sports event, or game that they might sit and play for hours. You missed an opportunity and I’m sorry for that. If Women of Witness does this again next year, I encourage you to make the effort to participate.
Rite Aid Fundraiser: THANK YOU to all who helped make this event a success. $1068 was raised for Children’s Hospital. May you never have to know how special their hospitality is for parents. That same week-end $155 was raised for Chris & Angie Bryan who lost their baby, Jasmayn. Thanks to those who helped.
Christian T-Shirts: For Sale $12. Hanging behind the door in the Central School Entrance. See Robin for purchase. There are also a few items on the register in the Walnut Street Entrance for sale.
Mother’s Day: There will be no evening service next Sunday. Spend some time with your mother. If your mother has passed on, ask the Lord what He would have you do.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT…CHILD TRAINING continued By J. Richard Fugate
Parental
Authority
God
has established the institution of the parent as one
of His ruling authorities on earth. To this position
has been delegated both the right to rule children
and all the power necessary to succeed in training
children according to God’s plan. This position
is the direct agency through which children are to
receive ruling during their childhood. That is, it is
through this position that each child is to receive
protection, direction, and instruction.
Whomever God places in the position of being a parent
is accountable directly to God for how he or she
rules. This position can be occupied by the natural
parents, by a remaining single parent, or by whomever
else God has placed there, such as a relative,
guardian, adoptee, stepparent, or foster parent.
Whoever occupies the position is held accountable by
God as much as the natural parents would have been.
It is important to realize that one who marries a
remaining parent has accepted full parental
responsibility before God.
Because of God-granted parental authority, parents
have the right to set their will above that of their
children and to command them to follow their
rulership. They also have the power to administer
justice and to punish for disobedience or to reward
for conformance to their commands. To what extent may
the parents enforce their will on their children?

A
group of professional people posed this question to a
group of 4 to 8
year-olds,
"What does love mean?"
The
answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone
could have
imagined.
See what you think:
Love
is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of
your French Fries without making them give you
any of theirs. Chrissy- age 6
Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and
she takes a sip giving it to him, to make sure
the taste is OK. Danny- age 7
Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get
tired of kissing, you still want to be together
and you talk more. My mommy and daddy
are like that. They look gross when they kiss.
Emily-
age 8
Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if
you stop opening presents and listen. Bobby- age
7
If you want to learn to love better, you should start
with a friend who you hate.
Nikka- age 6
"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man
who are still friends
even
after they know each other so well."
Tommy
- age 6
