A Thanksgiving Fellowship is planned for November 19 right after service. Please sign-up on the sheet hanging on the bulletin board in the vestibule at the Walnut Street entrance. This will be a covered dish dinner. We have 2 turkeys coming already but wondered if someone would do a ham? VBS Meeting: There will be a short meeting on Monday, November 6. Will last around an hour. This year’s program will be created by WWC talent rather than purchasing a pre-made program. We need actors to come especially to help put this together. This meeting is for everyone who is interested in ministering to the kids.
We passed out 420 gospel tracts in the plaza on Thursday. We actually ran out of tracts; probably could have used 50 more. So please pray for the homes that received the gospel that night, that they’ll be drawn by God’s Word.
Acquire the Fire: Ernie and Teresa Carpenter will be taking the youth group to the convention in Cleveland. They will be leaving the church parking lot at 10am on Friday. You are welcome to come pray with them before they leave. They can always use baked goods, munchies and pop for their trip if you’d like to bless them

Spaghetti Dinner: Tony and Connie Williams would like anyone who still needs tickets to see them. The dinner is Friday, Nov. 3, at 5pm. Friendly Reminder: if you have tickets or donations they need to be turned in by Wednesday night. One more thing: You have left us speechless once again! Your love is amazing!!

Emergency Utilities Ministry: I am starting a fund as a part of our Love Workshop Ministry, to help those I come in contact with through my Women of Witness work who need help in these areas. (Women of Witness operates on very little funding) If you can help with this at any point, put it in an offering envelope and mark it: Love Workshop Emergency Fund. A great big thank you to those of you who helped the family a couple of weeks ago. We were able to give them $20 worth of kerosene to get them through that cold snap. They were very appreciative of the help given in the Lord’s name.
Christmas Blessings: It is time to begin our Christmas Blessings collections for this year. This is a yearly ministry where we gift families with groceries to help them get through the holiday pressures and to honor the Lord. Enclosed is a shopping list for your consideration.
The Marine's Father A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside. "Your son is here," she said to the old man. She had to repeat the words several times before the patient's eyes opened. Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man's limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement. The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man's hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile. He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital. The clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients. Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night. Along towards dawn, the old man died. The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited. Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her. "Who was that man?" he asked. The nurse was startled, "He was your father," she answered. "No, he wasn't," the Marine replied. "I never saw him before in my life." "Then why didn't you say something when I took you to him?" "I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn't here. When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, knowing how much he needed me, I stayed." The next time someone needs you just be there. Stay. We are not human beings going through a temporary spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings going through a temporary human experience.

They both have parts in the play, which was written by Gene who is also co-director. It will be October 21 at 6:30pm at their church. Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser: The family of Brandon Williams is holding a spaghetti dinner to raise funds to pay for funeral/medical expenses. It will take place October 22 at the Moose Lodge from 1:00 to 6:00. Sandy Brown is selling tickets for them. Wouldn’t it be great to have a group from Word Worship Center go after service? We could stay after church and visit over a cup of coffee or throw some cards while we waited to go over at 1:00. See Robin if interested.

Why do I attend church service every time the door is open? Because I treasure my relationship with Jesus and I treasure the House of God. That is where my heart abides. Nothing on this earth is more important. The thoughts and senses of this mortal body must submit to the longings of my heart. My heart longs to be with Jesus in the Sanctuary of Almighty God. I will have it no other way. My soul does rejoice in the presence of the Almighty. And no power on this earth can take that from me. No matter how tired or lazy this body feels, no matter how “uninterested” this brain insists it is, no matter how much more important things “seem” to be, I’ll not be denied the presence of my Lord and Savior. And I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever and ever. What a great Treasure!! Amen.
The hounds of hell took what I wrote last week (written above) and decided to prove me wrong. You see, I was sick most of last week and missed Wednesday night service. I can hear darkness laughing in my face and sneering, “Consider yourself denied!!!” It took a serious attack against my body, (I was thinking I might be heading toward pneumonia again), but I was denied the opportunity to attend church service. However, prayer prevailed and Light won the battle. I am up and doing well once again. And guess what? I was not denied the presence of my Lord and Savior. He cradled me in His arms Wednesday night as the Sanctuary came to me while I was incapable of going to the Sanctuary. Why do I attend church every time the doors are open? “To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless.” Psalm 18:25 With that kind of assurance why would I even want to choose anything over Him and His Services? I’ll never find that kind of love in any other source. What a treasure!!!

One day the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, “ How was the trip?” “It was great, Dad.” “Did you see how poor people live?” the father asked. “Oh yeah,” said the son. “So tell me, what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father. The son answered: “I saw that we have one dog and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.” The boy’s father was speechless. Then his son added, “Thanks, Dad, for showing us how poor we are.”

HellStop: Cornerstone Full Gospel Church will have HellStop once again this year. HellStop is an outdoor, anti-drinking & driving docudrama, with a Gospel message at the end. The dates and times for this year’s event are: October 13th, 14th, 20th, 21st, 27th, and 28th. Tickets go on sale at 6:00pm – 11:00pm with the groups starting their journey at 7:00pm. There is indoor waiting with games and a concession stand for your enjoyment while you wait. The cost is $5 per person or $4 for groups of 20 or more. Does anybody want to try to go down as a group? (This takes place in Duncan Falls). Due to the graphic reality that is portrayed, ages 11 and under must be accompanied by their parents/guardian. A sign-up sheet is on the radiator in the Walnut Street vestibule.. Please sign up if you think you would like to car pool down. Thanks.

A benefit spaghetti dinner is being planned for November 3 to help the pastors with their medical bills. We are so amazed by the generous spirit that this congregation exhibits!! Your love for us is absolutely overwhelming!! But we want to take a moment to set your hearts at ease lest you worry about us. We rest solely in the arms of God. No matter where we go or what happens, we are His. We thank Him for His loving care and trust Him to the fullest. This is the peace that passes understanding that only He can give.
A sad state of affairs indeed! My heart sank as I read the email sent to me by a Christian friend. (Not from WWC) It was one of those “funny” emails created to bring a big chuckle to the reader. It was the story of “Little Tony” and his escapades at school. What followed was a series of jokes the likes of which were found in the Playboy Magazines of the 70’s. My emotions ran through a quick exchange of feelings which included offense that she would think I read such things to the sadness that a self proclaimed Christian would lower herself to share such things. I wonder if she was hitting the “send” button in the name of Jesus? Or perhaps some Christians don’t consider themselves ambassadors of Christ. (We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors…2 Corinthians 5:20) Or maybe that’s only when they are in the presence of other Christians. Do they forget Jesus is ever present? (And surely I am with you always…Matthew 28:20) Do they think the “potty mouth” is just fun and games? Not really harming anything? (Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths…Ephesians 4:29) I shudder to think what it will be like when she stands before God and He asks her to explain. You see, I can handle it just fine. I glance at the email, get a general idea of the subject matter, and hit delete. A done deal for me. But she still has to answer for it. Someone tells an off color joke to me or makes a funny “sexual” statement, I can turn my back and ignore it. The person who just spoke it to me has to answer for it. Christian, don’t do as the world does. Don’t you do it!!! Don’t send an email that you wouldn’t send to Jesus. Don’t tell a joke that you wouldn’t tell to Jesus. Don’t make a sexual statement that you wouldn’t say to Jesus. Don’t offend the Spirit of God that lives in me. Please. I can do without it thank you very much. Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things. Philippians 4:8. Beloved, if you find yourself caught up in this kind of humor, fall on your face and repent then plead with your Father in Heaven for a renewal of your mind. You don’t want to soil your witness! YOU are a chosen people, a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9) created for good works in Christ. Rise up to the calling, Beloved!!! Just do it!
