You are God’s
03/12/06 13:24
“Later
I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that
you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of
my garment over you and covered your nakedness. I
gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant
with you, declares the Sovereign Lord, and you became
mine.” Ez.16:8
No matter how you look at it God entered into a covenant that He established in His own Name, The writer of Hebrews tells us that when God entered into a covenant with Abraham, He swore by His own Name because there is none greater than God. Therefore, when we know that God makes a covenant He binds Himself to it. God does not change and so neither shall the covenants that He makes. You are God’s because God said so. What does this mean for us? Well, first of all, we are God’s possession, the called of God to be His people and He will be our God. Second, we are the apple of His eye and the treasure of His heart. Thirdly, we are His children and He is our Father.
As I was growing up I caused my parents a lot of grief. Was forever getting into trouble just because I wanted to do my own thing. They set up rules that I thought were just too strict and, as far as I was concerned, were hampering my style. I was fourteen and thought I knew all there was to know about life. Yeah right! Anyway, the point that I want to make is that no matter how much grief I caused them, they still considered me as their son. They may have been very disappointed in the way my life was heading but that isn’t the point that I want to make either. Now, I am not condoning just living our lives as Christians any old way we want and expect God to take us in His arms. I remember Jesus saying that He was the vine and we are the branches and any branch that didn’t bear fruit was in danger of being cut off from the vine –and that by God Himself. But what I would like to share is that God is bigger than your failings and mistakes and I think it is high time that we “forget that which is behind,” and get on with the business at hand. Listen, God is not as emotional as you and I. In fact, He controls His emotions through His will. That is the key of getting right back up when you fall. Sometimes people get so angry with themselves after the mess up that they say things like, “I know God forgives me but, I can’t forgive myself.” That statement should never be said by a born-again believer. If God requires that we forgive one another, He desires that we forgive ourselves also. Besides that, how do you expect to be used by God when you just keep looking at your failings? No sir, God wants us to continue to look at Him and the covenant that He has made with us so that we can get on with business. Trust that God knows how to deal with your mistakes (and your successes) and you’ll be ready when God wants to use you again.
