Priceless Faith Part II
First
dentistry was painless. Then bicycles were chainless,
Carriages were horseless, and many laws enforceless.
Next cookery was fireless, Telegraphy was wireless,
Cigars were nicotineless, and coffee was caffeinless.
Soon oranges were seedless, the putting green was
weedless,
The college boy was hatless, the proper diet fatless.
New motor roads are dustless, the latest steel
rustless,
Our tennis courts are sodless,
Our new religion –godless.
We fundamentalist (those who believe in the
infallibility of the Bible) have always been troubled
by the liberalism that is both in the secular world
and in religious circles and its attempt to reduce
the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a bloodless fairy-tale.
An article found in Redbook,
August
1961, entitled “The Startling Beliefs of our
Future Ministers,” included the results of a
survey taken among several major denominational
seminaries. These questions were asked and answered
as follows:
“Do you believe in the physical
resurrection?” 54% said, “No.”
“Do you believe in the virgin birth of
Christ?” 56% said, “No.”
“Do you believe in a literal heaven and
hell?” 71% said, “No.”
“Do you believe in the deity of Christ?”
89% said, “No.”
“Do you believe that man is separated from God
by birth (the doctrine of
depravity)?” 98% said “No.” or they
were not concerned about this.
“Do you believe in the Second Coming of Jesus
Christ?” 99% said “No.”
That survey was taken over a generation ago brothers
and sisters! The faith you and I possess is
priceless. It is very rare, and by definition,
anything that is rare, that people desire, is very
valuable. We are very rich in the eyes of God.
“Many
deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as
coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world.
Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.
Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked
for, but that you may be rewarded fully.” 2John
