The Ultimate Weapon
The Commander-n-Chief examined the troops and went over his plan of defense once more. There were rumors that the Enemy was up to something, no one was for certain, but extra defenses to the outer wall were added.
Inside the fortress troops kept watchful eyes on the prisoners and listening ears to the streets. The Commander-n-Chief’s strategy had worked well for years, he had a secure hold on everything, yet something was amiss –he could feel it.
The Commander’s legacy was famed by his notorious iron rule, no one stepped out of line. If he were to be approached, one would necessarily have to walk the path of eggshells. And if you did approach him you definitely didn’t want to be a bearer of bad news.
This day was no different, so with caution in his step and a lump in his throat, the soldier stood back just a little more timidly, “Sir,” He choked out, “I think you are needed in the control room.”
Without a word the Commander turned with an ice-cold stare, paused has if to have known, and then the two of them proceeded past security into the main control room. The room was large with hundreds of computers, manned and operating with the same precision that the troops on the streets moved in.
Nothing was out of place and no one was slacking. Perpetual initiatives were being programmed into computers, while a “cause and effect” diagnosis was being studied on monitors. Operations had been running smoothly for a number of years, people were under control, prisoners were secured and the citadel had become impregnable.
There were a few times, years ago, that the outer defenses had been broken through, but nothing really amounted to much. Sure, there were some skirmishes in the mountains, and a few close calls with rebellions, but all in all, the citadel was securely under the Commander’s tyrannical thumb.
“What’s the problem?” the Commander growled staring at the large wall-to-wall monitor. “We aren’t sure, Sir.” The soldier swallowed hard not daring to look at the returned scowl. “What do you have?” The Commander’s patience was wearing thin. The soldier motioned to the operator to bring up the information that he had on his computer to the large monitor for all to see.
“We have been watching closely the areas that you had recommended and nothing had been out of the ordinary.” For such advanced technology it seemed like it was taking the computer forever to bring something up on screen. Everyone stared at the monitor with a few brave ones catching glimpses of the Commander, waiting for any reaction. He just stood there motionless, with arms folded with one hand up to his face as he tapped one finger to his lips. This is how he looked when he watched the monitor, when he would observe the movements of the Enemy.
Finally, the screen glitched, and then glitched again, a picture of the dark landscape flashed on to the screen and cameras spanned the area. Everything was dark and quiet, nothing out of place.
The Commander’s patience was used up by now. “What seems to be the problem? Everything looks secure…” he barked. Interrupting was dangerous, but so was what was going to appear on screen. “Just a minute sir… yes right there.”
All eyes were on the monitor and then on the Commander and back again to the monitor. Suddenly a bright light broke through dispelling the dark sky and spilling on to the shadowy hills overlooking a little town.
“There Sir, right there!” the soldier pointed to a spot in the sky, “Here it comes.” With great force the light became hotter and brighter, as though it would burn the monitor screen itself.
“It’s Him.” The Commander spoke quietly. The burning ball of light pulsated as it grew and enlightened more of the hillside. Shepherds were in the fields watching their flocks of sheep by night. Their eyes turned toward the bright light even as some had hidden behind some rocks, yet they couldn’t take their eyes off the light.
The spinning, pulsating orb transformed into a beautiful array of colored light and took shape into what everyone in the room knew –an angel –a messenger of light! There was silence in the room as they all awaited the familiar thunder. The angel would speak and then operators would scurry to damage control.
“Glory
to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will
toward men!
Fear not: for behold, I bring you good tidings of
great joy
Which shall be to all people. For unto you is born
this day in the city of David
A Savior, which is Christ the
Lord”
“What
should we do Sir?” the soldier pleaded,
“What does this mean?” The Commander
dropped his hands and turned to leave, he looked as
though he had already seen his demise. “Nothing
for now, nothing… “ he searched for the
words, “This will change
everything.”
The Meaning for Christmas
Proponents for I.D. have, at times, conceded to an intelligent designer that in no way resembles the one true Eternal God. When it comes to the basic argument on how this world came into being, no one in their right mind can neglect the principle of Cause and Effect.
Nothing begats nothing. Only a Something can begat something. For instance, if we happen upon a book in the middle of a field, we would have to determine that something caused that book to be lying there –books just do not appear spontaneously in fields.
The folks who want to congeal science and religion with a “played down” version of God will ultimately do more harm for themselves than good. If you compromise your faith to hitch your wagon with the world, you will come out the loser.
What man cannot understand about the very first moments of creation has been hidden from him for a reason. And I believe, it is for his own good. If man were allowed to unlock the mysteries of the universe, scientific research would take on a path. And given the fact that two men still can’t live next to each other without squabbling about something, that’s a path I hope we never go down.
My point is made with the invention of dynamite by Alfred Nobel (of the Nobel Peace Award!). Just look at the path dynamite has taken us down.
There is another problem with knowing it all. I remember when I was a kid and I would come down to the Christmas Tree bulging with gifts and candies. O what a sight and how it thrilled my heart.
The smells of Christmas, the lights, the good will, all those things I associate with Christmas, flood my heart every year to bring new joys and blessings –a new sense of worship. As I would sit in my spot, waiting for dad to toss me a gift to unwrap, my heart pounded with excitement.
But as the day wore on, I looked for more, I wanted more. I didn’t know exactly what I was feeling, but the excitement associated with not knowing what my gifts were was gone! It was so fleeting and I wanted to have that excitement back –but it eluded me. This is why people want to celebrate Christmas in their own traditional ways –they’re looking for that excitement they remember as a child.
God transcends this finite creation beyond that which we can fathom. In fact, there is no way we could even think of God within the context of creation, unless He first revealed Himself to us. And if there were no God causing His effect on His creatures, then we wouldn’t even think to look up into the heavens and ask, “Why?”
I’ve never seen a group of dogs debating on the origins of life –“Where did we come from? Woof!” If macroevolution existed –then we are just animals –and we wouldn’t even think to question, “Is evolution for real? Duh!”
God made man in His image, enabling man to speak, “I am.” This conscious-ness of man mirrors his Creator as He told Moses, “Tell the Israelites, I am has sent you.”
So when Jesus was speaking to the unbelieving Jews of His day, His words bring more significance to not only His identity, but to ours.
“Jesus replied, ‘If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. Though you do not know Him, I know Him…Your father, Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.’ ‘You are not yet fifty years old,’ the Jews said to him, ‘and you have seen Abraham!’ ‘I tell you the truth,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’” John8:54-58
Let me tell you the truth, Jesus never questioned where He came from, or where He was going! Within man is the consciousness that hungers for the Unrealized, within Jesus was the consciousness of the Unknowable.
He knew It! Or better said, He knew Him! And now He makes Him, known to us! “Don’t you know Me, Philip, even after I have been with you such a long time? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father!” And that is one of many gifts Jesus has given to us by being born in Bethlehem.
Have a great week!

Leaving It All On The Earth
The idea is that it would be such a waste of talent and practice if they would “hold back” or even save something for the next game. The next game may never come. It would be a shame for the team to lose because one of the players didn’t give their all.
How would you feel if you knew that you didn’t run as fast as you could have and your team lost the big game? Ugh! Pastor Mark was telling me about his son, Cyrus, and what the coaches had instructed the running team for the college that he attends. “When you cross that finish line boys, make sure that you don’t have an ounce of potential left in you!” Cyrus told his dad that runners were crossing the finish line and immediately going to the side and collapsing to the ground, some vomiting and retching what little there may have been in them. Their philosophy was to give their all for the team.
This is what is being pushed on the athletes today, if they want to move on to the next level. Football players in college are told to give it all and they’ll be playing on Sunday, the day professional football is played. Give it all today, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll play tomorrow. I like to see people give it their all just as much as the next guy. I appreciate, along with everyone else, seeing an athlete excel at what she or he is doing. But there is one thing that baffles me; if people feel this strongly about sports, that are here today and gone tomorrow, why then, can’t we Christians feel this way towards the things of God?
There is coming a time when every Christian will receive their reward and experience the fullness of their heavenly citizenship. This day is approaching faster than many think and soon, this life here on earth will be gone before you know it. Gone, will be the chance to show your love for your Savior to a lost soul. Gone, will be the opportunity to shine your light and be the salt of the earth. Gone, will be the chance to give it your all, hold nothing back, but offer yourself up to the Lord as a living sacrifice.
There is coming a time when our toil shall be over and forever we must live with what we had done for the Lord while here on earth. God has given His children talents and what we do with those talents is very important to God.
Do you remember Schindler’s List? (the Steven Spielberg movie about the Nazi takeover of Germany?) A rich businessman (Schindler) tried with all of his might (and riches) to smuggle out of the country as many Jews as he could. If he was successful it meant salvation, if not, it meant death. At the end of the movie there is this scene where Schindler is questioning why he didn’t sell his watch, his ring or his car. He certainly could have saved many more Jews from the concentration camps if he had only done more, just a little more –just one more.
O, Saint of God, I do not want to regret not “leaving it all on the field.” I don’t want to get to heaven wishing I had done just a little more here on earth. I want to stand before the Lord with a clear conscience and grateful heart. And I know that you feel the same, so by the grace of God let’s be all we can be and not leave anything on the field.
Let us run the race set before us with all diligence and allow the grace of God to work effectually within us all!
Have a great week!

How much time is left?
There are plans for weddings, career moves and opportunities and retirements. We have this natural tendency to think that life is going to go on just as it has since the beginning. When winter approaches we think about how much snow we’ll get, or how cold it’ll be in the deep of January. I,for one, think about my wood supply and wonder if it’ll last me until April.
But… Could it be that the Lord may return before then? Is it possible that Christians may not see 2012, at least not here on earth? Jesus scolded the Jews of His day because, though they could interpret the signs of the climate, they couldn’t interpret the sign of the times –they missed the Day of their Visitation!
I realize that we must live for today, that we need to plan for the future and be diligent in taking care of those God entrusted us with. Parents need to work, homes need repaired and from time to time, a good vacation is needful. At times, (if you are so privileged. ) money needs to be saved for some purchases “down the road” in our lives. All of these things require that we pay attention to what is happening here on earth.
We keep ourselves (by God’s grace) in food, clothes and shelter. “If we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.” 1Timothy 6:8 But I wonder what Paul was thinking when he spoke to the Corinthians and said, “What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none; those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.” 1Corithians 7:29-31
Even the writer of Hebrews spoke a warning of the nearness of that Hour. “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another –and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25 And who can forget the words of Paul in Romans 13:11,12 “And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than we first believed. The night is nearly over, the day is almost here!”
I am amazed at the preciseness of the Word of God. And His Word has given us all we need, not only to make us wise unto salvation, but of the understanding of the times! The Judge is at the door! It is time to wake up from our slumber, to put off the sinful nature and to love the Lord our God with all our hearts, souls and strength.
I may not be the best preacher, or the most loving pastor and shepherd; I may not be the most charismatic personality or even the most spiritual man you may know or even heard of. But, (by the grace of God) I am what I am, and I declare to you all –the time is really, really short! Please do not rest on your laurels, or presume too much about the mercy of God.
Some of you need to be more faithful to the Body of Christ, by coming to church and serving God with whatever talent He has given you. It is not time to become spiritually lazy, or to think that you’re not needed in the House of God. It’s time to buckle up the belt of truth and quit being spiritually anemic. It’s not just about feelings –it’s about what transpires to your will!
Folks Jesus is coming back for a victorious Church, who has been longing for His return. Who have trimmed their lamps and who have oil in reserve! Be sober Christian! Be vigilant man and woman of God. Look up, for your Redemption draweth nigh!
Have a great week!
